| Most designers charge you by the job (or a "piece" price). They'll
quote you a price for the entire site. Or, in some cases, they'll give you a
"per page" price. More often than not, with a piece price, you'll pay a LOT more
than you should have to. We've heard of sites that have taken 2 weeks to build and
the designer has charged $5000.00 (or more)! Unless you're doing e-commerce and have
hundreds of products, that's outrageous!
In another case, one of our current clients was recently told by a designer that
they would do the monthly maintenance on their site for a flat fee of $1200 a month.
Their average monthly bill with Site designers is about $200; and it's a BIG
site. Guess who still designs their site!

On the other hand, most people who charge by the "page" either:
- Give you VERY short pages or
- Have a "template" (offering no customization) and simply plug your content into it;
which takes about
15 minutes
In most cases, they certainly will not take their time doing the design because
they know that their "per page" price is all they're going to get.
